    Another good reason for Java to be open source
    
   
    
     Lambda the Ultimate had a pointer to this 
seminar on memory management research.  If Java was open source, all these people could experiment on the real JVM, and we could all benefit from this stuff a lot faster.
Also, problems like the JDK 1.4.1 StringBuffer leak would probably be fixed by now too.
