I have blinked a few times and the whole world has changed. I have mostly worked with photoshop on a pc for both film and digital. I am looking to free myself and buy a mac. Which means looking at software for my new mac i never considered anything but photoshop until lightroom and apeture . One suggestion i read was using Apeture and a earlier version of photoshop(4.0). I have photoshop cs and things are good. Looks like you guys are leaning toward lightroom.

I do mostly wedding photography nowdays and LR is the best thing that happened to me. Workflow time decreased by a huge margin. It's not there to change Photoshop,but it's a very valuable addition to the family. I don't know any photographers who bought the Lightroom,used it and decided that it's not for them. Maybe if you are a beginner photographer,who doesn't do much photography. Imagine going though 1000s of photos!?

my take:
- LR is easier to use on an infrequent basis (the modality acts as a workflow guide);
- LR handling of metadata integrates more easily with PS, ACR, iView Media Pro/Expressions Media (most but not all
metadata from Ap works across apps last I checked);
- LR adjustment controls more intuitive to me as a PS user;
- Aperture has nicer UI features, and released their plugin support at least;
- I'd use Ap to build a book anyway.

I have gone to different LR Catalogs for different major projects, but I think Aperture users do the same thing.
I do this because I like the logical separation between them. Personal work goes into single catalog.

In either case, I do prefer to manage the images myself because I find that other cataloging apps work better at that and because I know where things are when I need them. Once the images are tagged, I can locate them easily, and I tag them immediately upon import.

I suspect that LR is a better in-the-field app given its
workflow-orientation and single-screen focus.
